About the Albany Teachers Association

We are a local chapter that represents educators (teachers, counselors, school librarians, specialists, E.S.L unit members, psychologists, and nurses). We advocate for our members, children, and public schools in the Albany community. We work to make sure that children and teachers in Albany have what they need in classrooms and schools for a quality education.  We represent teacher’s rights as listed by California State Education Code and the local bargaining agreement.  We work to ensure quality teachers for every student by bargaining fair compensation and working conditions.  We organize for local, state, and national campaigns for appropriate funding through state and federal taxes, parcel taxes, bond measures, for issues that teachers know make a difference in classes, and for politicians who support public education.  We are affiliated with the California Teachers Association and the National Education Association.

About the California Teachers Association

Founded in 1863, the California Teachers Association has become one of the strongest advocates for educators in the country. CTA includes teachers, counselors, school librarians, social workers, psychologists, and nurses. These educators in the K-12 school system are joined by community college faculty, California State University faculty, and education support professionals to make CTA the most inclusive and most powerful voice of educators in the state.

About the National Education Association

The National Education Association (NEA), the nation’s largest professional employee organization, is committed to advancing the cause of public education. NEA’s 3 million members work at every level of education—from pre-school to university graduate programs. NEA has affiliate organizations in every state and in more than 14,000 communities across the United States.
